Acne is a disease of the hair follicles of the face, chest, and back that affects almost all teenagers during puberty. It is not caused by bacteria, although bacteria play a role in its development.

CAUSES

  • Although there is no single cause, but many factors may contribute.
  • HORMONES-
  • (a) Hormonal activity, such as menstrual cycles and puberty, may contribute to the formation of acne.
  • (b) Pregnancy, or disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome, hirsutism, or Cushing's syndrome may cause acne.
  • GENETIC
  • PSYCHOLOGICAL- Stress
  • DIET- Milk and pure chocolate are said to aggravate the problem.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

  • occluded pores ("comedones"), also known as blackheads orwhiteheads,
  • tender red bumps also known as pimples or zits,
  • pustules,
  • cysts (deep pimples, boils).
